Assistant Cultural Wellness Worker

Location: Gambler First Nation / On-Reserve / Program Site
Employment Type: Full-time
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Position Summary
The Assistant Cultural Wellness Worker supports the delivery of culturally grounded wellness programming for children, youth, and families served under Jordan’s Principle. This role assists with daily programming, cultural activities, emotional and social support, and promotes a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment rooted in Indigenous values, traditions, and community teachings.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Cultural Wellness Worker, Jordan’s Principle staff, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and families to support holistic wellness—spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical.
Key Responsibilities
Program Support & Delivery
- Assist in planning, organizing, and delivering cultural, wellness, and land-based activities.
- Support group and individual activities for children and youth of varying age groups.
- Encourage participation while ensuring inclusivity and cultural safety.
- Assist with preparing materials, spaces, and supplies for programming.
Cultural & Wellness Support
- Support the integration of cultural teachings, ceremonies, language, and traditions into daily activities.
- Encourage positive identity, self-esteem, and emotional well-being among participants.
- Assist in maintaining culturally respectful environments and practices.
- Support Elder- or Knowledge Keeper–led activities as needed.
Child & Youth Care
- Provide attentive supervision to ensure safety and well-being at all times.
- Offer emotional support, guidance, and positive role modeling.
- Assist with daily routines, transitions, and behavior support using trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work collaboratively with Jordan’s Principle staff and community partners.
- Communicate respectfully with parents, caregivers, and families.
- Report concerns, incidents, or observations to the Cultural Wellness Worker or Case Manager as required.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Assist with attendance tracking, activity documentation, and incident reports.
- Help maintain clean, organized, and safe program spaces.
- Follow all policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required
- Experience working with children, youth, or families in a community or wellness setting.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Indigenous culture, traditions, and community values.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work with diverse age groups.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (or willingness to obtain).
- First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Assets
- Indigenous ancestry and/or strong connection to First Nations culture and community.
- Education or training in Child & Youth Care, Social Services, Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field.
- Experience in cultural programming, land-based learning, or community wellness.
- Familiarity with Jordan’s Principle programming.

Working Conditions
